during the pandemic, we have learned to live in virtual mode in many ways: online classes, remote work, online shopping, online yoga, etc. museums and galleries, like so many fields, have had to adapt. and although they weren't invented at the time, more and better options have emerged.
the world is mobile again, but the traces of this peculiar way of living are still there. It's great to have the opportunity to travel, to be there, to see works of art up close, to be infected by the whole atmosphere, but that's no excuse if you can't. or if you just can't do it as often as you'd like.

MET

opened in 1880, the metropolitan museum of art occupies 11.5 acres in central park along fifth avenue. it has 2 million square feet of exhibition space and welcomes more than 4 million visitors annually. its collection spans 5,000 years of art history, from prehistory to the present. it includes 36,000 objects, including 2,500 european old master, impressionist, and post-Impressionist paintings, as well as the largest collection of egyptian art and artifacts outside of cairo-including the full-scale temple of dendur.

the museum of art of são paulo assis chateaubriand was brazil's first modern museum, founded in 1947. with a collection of more than 11,000 works of art, it includes sculptures, paintings, objects, photographs and clothing from different periods and places: europe, america, africa and asia. here and here

MOCA

this is one of the largest contemporary art museums in asia, with over 800 pieces of modern thai art. constructed in 2012, it is privately funded by thai millionaire boonchai bencharongkul. MOCA also exhibits collections by vietnamese, chinese, italian and japanese artists, and has an extensive private collection of modern paintings and sculptures, here.

NATIONAL GALLERY

RIJKSMUSEUM

originally built in the hague in 1800 and moved to the capital eight years later, it is one of the most visited museums in the netherlands. its vast collection showcases iconic art and a wide variety of artifacts that reflect more than 800 years of dutch and world history. it includes paintings by the likes of rembrandt, van gogh and countless other dutch greats. rembrandt's the night watch, vincent van gogh's self-portrait and johannes vermeer's the milkmaid are just some of the notable works on permanent display. here and here.
